Shaynah was born into music, her parents, both professional musicians, have inspired her and instilled in her a love for music.
This talented soul has supported Sabrina Starke on her “Dreamer’s Tour”, performed on the Codarts/Keymusic talent stage of the North Sea Jazz Festival, and is currently working with HAYP (Ladies of Soul), Anan den Boer (Alain Clark) and Nosa Apolo (Craig David).
Her undeniable talent, dedication and hard work were rewarded in December 2014 when she received the “Music Matters Award”. As a result, she proudly released her first EP “DARE” in June 2015, featuring the popular single “Werk It”, which earned her the title of “Radio 6 Soul & Jazz Talent”.
In 2018 she came back with newly gained inspiration and a fresh new sound, which translated into the song “Over”, the first single from her most personal album: “Chapter 22”. Her story, wrapped in an emotional musical masterpiece, consists of three EP’s; PUZZLED, WASTED & NAKED”. With her heart on her sleeve and her hurt exposed, she tells the relatable stories of a young human getting to know herself. Part 1 was released in November 2020. She released the second part, WASTED, with the songs “G.T.F.O.” and “Freak” in May 2022.
“Making music is a way of processing experiences that provoke certain feelings inside of me. These could be either traumatic, thought-stirring, or new situations/adventures. I share my music to create a space of community and collective healing. I don’t tell people what to do with my music. If one wants to enjoy the groove or someone else wants to relate to the lyrics, that’s all fine by me. I make soulful neo R&B inspired songs that spark mental, spiritual, and physical freedom and encourage the journey to becoming comfortable in one’s own vulnerability regardless of their sexuality, cultural background, social status, etc.” –Shaynah
Next to writing her own music, she started producing for other artists and has been composing music for theatre and musicals, as well as acting in several plays. She is currently touring the country as part of theatre plays.
The third part of her album, “NAKED” is scheduled for release in 2023. The first single “Fair Play” features Grammy winning singer/songwriter Jackie’s Boy was released on June 2nd , followed by an acoustic version with fellow-queer singer/songwriter MacKenzie, in honor of this year’s Pride.
